SAN FRANCISCO -- Medivation, Inc. today announced that its selective androgen receptor modulator, MDV3100, to date has reduced serum levels of prostate specific antigen (PSA), a marker of tumor growth, in the six patients enrolled in the first two dose groups of its ongoing Phase 1-2 trial in hormone refractory prostate cancer. PSA declines were seen in a dose-dependent manner in these patients. In the lowest dose group, after two months of treatment PSA levels declined 45 percent to 66 percent.

New Prostate Cancer Technology Saving Lives

SARASOTA, Fla. -- JM, a 71 year old business executive from Tennessee, had a negative biopsy using gray scale ultrasound despite a PSA of 7.1. The following year, the PSA rose to 11.5 prompting a second biopsy that was negative despite adding Color Flow Doppler Ultrasound. At this point, the patient and all doctors in attendance were frustrated without a clear path to identify a disease process that was begging to be discovered.

Digital Mammography Gives Better Contrast, Clearer Images

NORMAL -- Dr. Mitchell Sussman analyzed images of breast tissue on computer screens. "This is better image quality," the radiologist said of one image compared to another. The first image was digital mammography. The second image was standard mammography. "I'm seeing much better than with the old film (standard mammography)," Sussman said. Digital mammography offers clearer images than standard mammography, allowing for quicker breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, he said.
