Introgen Therapeutics, Inc. reported the results of new data analysis from multiple Phase 2 clinical studies showing a statistically significant correlation between the abnormal p53 biomarker and tumor response after treatment with ADVEXIN in patients with head and neck, lung, prostate and Li-Fraumeni Syndrome cancers. Using Additional Biopsy Scoring Data May Help Determine Prostate Cancer Prognosis

Men with certain scores and patterns based on prostate cancer biopsy were found to be at higher risk of PSA-failure, suggesting that this measurement could help predict the risk of prostate cancer recurrence, according to preliminary research published in JAMA (see also Prostate Cancer). One of the tools used for the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer is the Gleason scoring system, which grades adenocarcinomas (malignant tumors) of the prostate based on the patterns of prostatic glands.

Study Suggests Soy Protein May Reduce Prostate Cancer Risk

ST. Progen Announces PI-88 Phase 2 Lung Cancer Results

Progen Pharmaceuticals Limited announced that the Phase 2 trial administering 250mg of PI-88 in combination with the chemotherapeutic agent docetaxel to patients with advanced non small cell lung cancer did not meet its primary endpoint of significantly improving the progression-free rate at six months compared to docetaxel alone. The trial also did not meet its secondary endpoints of improvement in time to progression, response rate, overall survival and quality of life measures.

More Research Needed To Advance Knowledge Of Sex Differences In Lung Cancer

The Society for Women s Health Research gathered three lung cancer experts on Capitol Hill recently to inform Congress on the need for increased funding to research lung cancer and its impact on women (see also Breast Cancer). We focused on lung cancer today because lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death for both women and men in America, said Phyllis Greenberger, M.S.W, president and CEO of the Society, a Washington, D.C. based advocacy organization.
